WHO ARE WE?

We are a 501c3 nonprofit who seeks to support and empower young women globally to become all God has called them to be. We provide education and business opportunities to marginalized young women.

We have a simple but robust mission: to support and empower women globally to become all that God has called them to be. 

We focus on the whole woman by encouraging community support, providing educational and business opportunities, stimulating spiritual awareness, securing health care, and providing temporary financial support until she can stand on her own.

Philosophy

Women InSpirit follows the philosophy of Saint Teresa of Calcutta to serve the Christ in front of us.  For the most part, we do not seek out recipients to become beneficiaries of our support. Girls come to us for help after hearing about us through friends or family.

Women InSpirit follows the philosophy of Saint Teresa of Calcutta to serve the Christ in front of us.  For the most part, we do not seek out recipients to become beneficiaries of our support. Girls come to us for help after hearing about us through friends or family.


While we know we cannot solve the problem of poverty, we do absolutely believe we can help the girl who stands before us to achieve her personal and educational goals thus helping her become financially independent and in a place to help support her family going forward.

Since 2012 WIS has :

  • Given countless microloans to young women to set up small businesses 
  • Provided educational material and speakers for  Dakella Youth Mothers Organization (DYMO), a now inactive organization that supported unwed teen mothers
  • Helped established Legacy Academy, a 3-classroom elementary school for the children of our basket 

Since 2012 WIS has :

  • Given countless microloans to young women to set up small businesses 
  • Provided educational material and speakers for  Dakella Youth Mothers Organization (DYMO), a now inactive organization that supported unwed teen mothers
  • Helped established Legacy Academy, a 3-classroom elementary school for the children of our basket weavers in Sherigu, Ghana. 
  • Educated 5 young women at KNUST (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology) in Kumasi, Ghana. As of 2020, we have 3 graduates from this university. One is even getting her Master's in Chemistry in Paris.
  • Educated all ages of girls- nursery school, elementary, junior high, high school and college 
  • Established 3 tailoring schools in which young girls are learning to sew: Women InSpirit Tailoring in Accra (City of God),  Women InSpirit Tailoring School in Bolgatanga, Women InSprit Tailoring School at JayNii in Accra, Ghana. 
  • Fundraised yearly through an annual fund, an annual brunch, grants, and many markets where we sell beautiful baskets from Bolgatanga, Ghana, private donations, memorials, women’s organization meetings/luncheons, as well as occasional Speak 'n Sell home shows where we come to your home, you invite your friends to hear about us, and everyone SHOPS!

  • We work hard at fundraising for our projects!


  • You may find us at various local markets throughout the year in and around the Houston area. We sell beautiful baskets and other fine fair trade goods.


  • Every spring, we mail out our annual fund letter requesting support. The Annual Fund is one of our primary sources of funding.

  • Each Fall, we have a Raise 'n Graze Brunch which is elegant and so much fun! The brunch is a big fundraiser for us as well.


  • We keep you informed of all opportunities through various e-mail WIS BRIEFS and on our social media.
